The way you win elections is by controlling the conversation. You put your opponent on defensive and you hammer the point home, over and over again. You make your opponent whine like a squealing pig. America does not like whiners.
Today, the Obama campaign won the day.
First, Joe Biden landed a zinger on stem cell research:
I hear all this talk about how the Republicans are going to work in dealing with parents who have both the joy, because there’s joy to it as well, the joy and the difficulty of raising a child who has a developmental disability, who were born with a birth defect. Well guess what folks? If you care about it, why don’t you support stem cell research?
Then, Barack Obama let loose hitting the McCain campaign where it hurts:
Obama poked fun of McCain and Palin’s new "change" mantra.
"You can put lipstick on a pig," he said as the crowd cheered. "It’s still a pig."
"You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It’s still gonna stink."
"We’ve had enough of the same old thing."
Predictably, the McCain campaign cried "sexism!", only to have their hypocrisy shoved back at them by journalists.
Let me understand this correctly. Sarah Palin declares to the world that she is a pitbull with lipstick on. And now her campaign is whining every time someone actually calls Palin and McCain on their lies? I didn’t know pitbulls whined.
The honeymoon is over for the McCain/Palin ticket. Welcome to the general election season.

Mr. McCain, I know a pit bull and Sarah Palin is no pit bull. 🙂
When I read Joe Biden’s comments at work, I couldn’t stop laughing. I hope they keep up these attacks because they’re working.
Of course they’re working.
Obama has reclaimed the lead. 🙂 I know. Only by 1 point. But that was a quick recovery.
Both NBC News and Wall Street Journal posted this result a few hours ago.
Obama wins on the issues hands down. McCain has nothing to run on, so they went for a gimmick. Its time to expose the gimmick for what it is.
Some are arguing that the Obama campaign should not focus on Palin. I think in the long run that is true, but in the opening days they have to expose the pick for its recklessness. They cannot let the McCain camp build the myth that they are attempting to ride.
These two days have worked for Obama. Now, they need to build on it. Palin will give a warm and fuzzy interview with Gibson at the end of the week to try to improve on the “hockey mom” image. I will be shocked if Gibson actually does his job and asks her the tough questions. So, the campaign needs to force the narrative on the media.
I’ll be watching numbers in Florida and Virginia closely. If Florida moves north for Obama than its game on. I didnt think Obama could take Florida, but the Palin pick has given him an opening.
Btw, if you haven’t read the Newsweek story yet, you should. It will put “Troopergate” front and center again. The honeymoon is over.
I just hope & pray the McCain-Pallin honeymoon is over. I think its time for the Democrats to “let the dogs out.” Being too late and too nice won’t work dealing with these lip’sticked’ pigs. Can’t just wait for the Pallin Bubble to burst. Hope it bursts like Bush’s touted so-called home ownership boom. I hope it happens soon, rather than after November 4.
