The likely new chairman of the House Judiciary Committee says he’s just fighting bigotry in leading a Democrat jihad to deny law enforcement key terror-fighting tools. But he is in the pocket of Islamists.
John Conyers, son of a leftist Detroit union activist, represents the largest Arab population in the country. His district includes Dearborn, Mich., nicknamed "Dearbornistan" by locals fed up with cultural encroachment and terror fears from a steady influx of Mideast immigrants.
Conyers, who runs an Arabic version of his official Web site, does the bidding of these new constituents and the militant Islamist activists who feed off them. They want to kill the Patriot Act and prevent the FBI from profiling Muslim suspects in terror investigations. They also want to end the use of undisclosed evidence against suspected Arab terrorists in deportation proceedings.

Expect Conyers and Pelosi to kick open the doors of Congress to Islamists from the Council on American-Islamic Relations and other militant groups. They will have unfettered access, even though many of their leaders have been tied to terrorism (some CAIR officials have landed in the big house).
In 2003, Conyers hosted the first dinner on the Hill that celebrated the end of Ramadan for such Muslim leaders. It’s now a tradition. Incoming Democrat freshman Keith Ellison, a Louis Farrakhan disciple and first Muslim member of Congress, will no doubt expand the invitation list.
When I read the above editorial from the Investor’s Business Daily, the old song from The Police comes to mind:

It baffles the mind that rubbish like this gets printed in a supposedly respectable business paper as the IBD. How can one counter such prejudice and ignorance?!?

The other problem is that ID is making blanket statements that cut out the Christian Arab American population, many of whom have been in this country at least 100 years. And that’s longer than half of my family has been here and quite possibly longer than that editor’s family has been here. As for dismantling the Patriot Act- a whole lot of us would like to see it go and that includes Micks, Poles, etc.. It’s bad no matter where you came from and it’s decidedly unconstitutional, as far as I am concerned.

Yeah, these people will not stop the smear campaign against progressives. That’s okay. I cancelled my IBD subscription when I fell out of the investor class a few years ago. Screw them.
I can’t wait for Conyers and Waxman to become department heads in January. Heads will roll and the fun will begin. >:)

Un-be-lievable! I had to rub my eyes and check this was an actual editorial by the staff of the IBD, not a guest opinion in some more traditional extreme right journal.
Zazou has a good point - especially because most of the Conyers’ MidEast-descent constituents are Lebanese or Syrian Christian, despite recent Muslim immigration. Not that this matters - the vast majority of them, Muslim or Christian, are peaceful and law-abiding, and the IBD’s editorial is a racist attack on the entire Arab-American community, regardless of religion, citizenship, or contribution to American society.

Oh, and Ellison is now an orthodox Muslim who has long since moved on from his youthful support of the Nation of Islam.

I wish I could say I was surprised…I stopped even looking at IBD years ago when I saw that they were seeming to engage in a “more right-wingnut than thou” pissing contest with the editorial page of the Wall St. Journal. But this editorial truly takes the cake…it sounds like something you’d read in the New Brownshirt Daily. So much racism it’s hard to see how ANYONE can take these wack jobs seriously. I hope they keep this crap up, because I believe there are even quite a few republicans reading this editorial and canceling their subscription to IBD in disgust…if for no other reason than they don’t want their neighbors to see them reading it and assume they have a neo-Nazi neighbor.

They keep it up because the last 4 years have shown them they can, because logic is no longer a standard American value and because if they do get caught, they can blame their mommies and beer, because the Minutemen would rather annoy people and ask for their papers than get their hands dirty and pick the fruit that is rotting in Northern California, because the average citizen has been turned into a ninny who fears Arabs, immigrants and high gas prices- in that order.
And because the Congress has allowed Dubya and friends to gather the powers of the three bracnhes unto himself with nary a whine of dissent- and the US public was either absent or hung over in civics class and doesn’t know the difference.
