The Politico reports that Republican donors are unhappy with Sarah Palin’s outrageous shopping spree at their expense:
The Republican National Committee’s $150,000 investment in Sarah Palin’s wardrobe has prompted some teeth gnashing among the party’s big donors about its political sensibility and a feisty debate among campaign finance specialists about its legality.
“As a Republican Eagle and a maxed-out contributor to McCain’s general campaign, I’d like my money back – he can still have my vote,” complained one irate donor on Tuesday.
“I’m not one who says a candidate shouldn’t wear fine clothes,” he added. “I’d just like to think they were successful enough in the private sector to have afforded their wardrobe with their own money, not the party’s or the campaign’s, which is really our money as contributors.”
Republican strategist and former McCain advisor, Mike Murphy, has some suggestions for possible GOP spin lines. Among them:
What’s the difference between a Pit Bull and a Hockey Mom? You can feed a pit-bull for 483 years with 150 grand.
Clearly, Republicans are upset by her $75,000 trip to Nieman Marcus and $49,000 trip to Saks Fifth Avenue, among other things.
Since $150,000 has become so cheap that only a few trips to the clothing store can rack up such numbers, it is worth considering what else can be done with $150,000:
Thanks for sharing the video. It made me choke up with tears. What a world of difference in people’s lives.
The Republicans have always been bunch of hypocrites.
Sarah “Antoinette†Palin spends $150 thousands of donors’ money on the most expensive clothes for her and her entire family, while pretending to be an average hokey mom and vouching to work for the Joe-six-packs. What a shame.
It turns out that McCain-Feingold prevents the campaign from paying for candidate’s clothing. This is why they had the Republican National Committee pay for it. Someone should ask McCain how he feels about his running mate doing an end run against the law he co-sponsored.
I’m infuriated that she was allowed to do this. It’s just the beginning of things to come should McCain/Palin be elected. Her twisted sense of entitlement is blatant beyond belief!
She thinks that she can start snarfing down at the public trough before she’s hired to do the job! She’s a hick and has secured the white trash vote. She surely exhibits white trash values.
Thank you for the quotes of republican contributers who are righteously angered by their monies being used to dress up Palin and her family. The old saying, “You can dress them up, but you can’t take them out” fits here.
This gross misuse of funds needs to be kept on the front page of the news. She needs to pay all that money back. I can’t put words to my feelings of outrage.
Sam23, it now emerges that her makeup person was the highest paid person in the campaign. This is nuts.
