Subhuman

[Via mcjoan]

In the aftermath of the tragedy at Virginia Tech, some have revealed themselves to be subhuman.

There is this from John Derbyshire at the National Review:

As NRO’s designated chickenhawk, let me be the one to ask: Where was the spirit of self-defense here? Setting aside the ludicrous campus ban on licensed conceals, why didn’t anyone rush the guy? It’s not like this was Rambo, hosing the place down with automatic weapons. He had two handguns for goodness’ sake—one of them reportedly a .22.

At the very least, count the shots and jump him reloading or changing hands. Better yet, just jump him. Handguns aren’t very accurate, even at close range. I shoot mine all the time at the range, and I still can’t hit squat. I doubt this guy was any better than I am. And even if hit, a .22 needs to find something important to do real damage—your chances aren’t bad.

Yes, yes, I know it’s easy to say these things: but didn’t the heroes of Flight 93 teach us anything? As the cliche goes—and like most cliches. It’s true—none of us knows what he’d do in a dire situation like that. I hope, however, that if I thought I was going to die anyway, I’d at least take a run at the guy.
Then there is this from Nathanael Blake at Human Events:
College classrooms have scads of young men who are at their physical peak, and none of them seems to have done anything beyond ducking, running, and holding doors shut. Meanwhile, an old man hurled his body at the shooter to save others.

Something is clearly wrong with the men in our culture. Among the first rules of manliness are fighting bad guys and protecting others: in a word, courage. And not a one of the healthy young fellows in the classrooms seems to have done that.

When Kip Kinkle opened fire in Thurston High School a few years back, he was taken down by students, led by one who was already wounded. Why didn’t that happen here?

Like Derb, I don’t know if I would live up to this myself, but I know that I should be heartily ashamed of myself if I didn’t. Am I noble, courageous and self-sacrificing? I don’t know; but I should hope to be so when necessary.

Then there is this from Debbie Schlussel:

* The murderer has been identified by law enforcement and media reports as "a young Asian male."

* The Virginia Tech campus has a very large Muslim community, many of which are from Pakistan (per terrorism investigator Bill Warner).

* Pakis are considered "Asian."

Why am I speculating that the "Asian" gunman is a Pakistani Muslim? Because law enforcement and the media strangely won’t tell us more specifically who the gunman is. Why?

Even if it does not turn out that the shooter is Muslim, this is a demonstration to Muslim jihadists all over that it is extremely easy to shoot and kill multiple American college students.

And finally this from Ms. Schlussel after the Chicago Tribune reported that the shooter had the words "Ismail Ax" written in red ink on one of his arms:

Hmmm . . . Ismail–the Arabic name for Ishmael–considered the father of all Arabs and a very important figure in Islam.

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence, right? Doesn’t mean anything. Right.

Maybe "Ismail Ax" is the name of a friend of his. Or maybe he wanted to remind himself to buy an Ax for his friend Ismail for next Ramadan. Or I’m sure we’ll hear some other similarly absurd "explanation." We’ll see.

So, if I understand it correctly, the subhuman speculation is that the Virginia Tech students are cowards and the shooter must be connected to Islam somehow.

Mssrs. Derbyshire and Blake simply have no shame.

Ms. Schlussel embarrasses herself yet again. She goes for a two-fer on her first post, by pointing the finger at Muslims and then using the racial slur "Paki" to refer to Pakistanis. There’s a Muslim hiding under every rock in Ms. Schlussel’s hateful world.

Incidentally, the Washington Post reports that the shooter had "Ismale Ax" tattooed on his arm, not "Ismail Ax". Here’s some wild speculation for you, Ms. Schlussel. How about an anagram, how does "I Axl same" sound to you? I figure the shooter writes about being abused and writes about Guns N’ Roses songs in his plays. Axl Rose fits the bill just fine: he claims he suffered child abuse and he and Guns N’ Roses sang the song ‘Mr. Brownstone‘.

———————————-

Here in Virginia people are shaken by the massacre at Virginia Tech. Its hard to not run into a Hokie in Northern Virginia – at the workplace, in the neighborhood, everywhere. Almost everyone here either has a child studying at Virginia Tech or knows someone who has a child studying at Virginia Tech. The day after the massacre our thoughts remain with the victims – the sons and daughters of Virginia.

———————————-

Some on the blogosphere however could not help themselves. Within hours of the tragedy they had sunk to subhuman depths.

Subhuman.

you haven’t even touched on the most outrageous part of one of DS’ posts. The one about Eldarossell, where she basically gets in bed with the people that think all asians look the same.

She is the lowest of the low, please stay on her about this!

    “Debbie Does Hokie” :-l
People like these are one of the reasons of uprise in western-haters.

VTech massacre is just an unfortunate turn of event. Very very sad and scary. My heart goes out to the friends and families of the victims. I have several friends in the Enginering depts of VT. On Monday I was frantically on the phone, online – trying to make sure they were all ok. Thankfully they were, even though one of them was in the first floor of Norris Hall, next to a class room that took shots.
Can’t imagine how horrible it must be for all the surviving friends to go back to those classes.

Here’s a link to the smoking-gun site that has the transcript of the play Cho wrote for one his English class (warning – it’s extremely disturbing)

What’s up with this campaign for arms to be allowed in campus? Are they out of their minds?
I would never want to go to a class if I knew the guy sitting next to me had a loaded weapon in his backpack.
In a frat party the feuding rivals may end up with just black eyes. If they had a loaded gun handy, and their sense impaired by high alcohol level in their blood, imagine how fatal the consequences could be!!

And then there are these people who are saying the students should have fought back! WHAT!? Fight back with what? Who would want to confront a lunatic who’s continuously firing shots at anybody in front of him?

  5. Mash says:

boeddi, your guess is as good as mine :d And both are better than Debbie’s.

Paul, I just saw that post after your comments. There’s something not right in that head. Wow, for her to actually put that picture up of that kid and claim its the same kid really exposes her for what she is. You know, mostly I feel sorry for her.

I also noticed the pic of the cousin she threw in to tie it to Islam.

  6. Mash says:

Zafa, most people I speak to here in Virginia are still in kind of a shock. I just saw the latest news that the shooter sent a package to NBC with pictures and video. The pic on the front page at msnbc.com is demented.

I find the gun lobby’s position on putting more guns on campus to be a bit deranged. I cant imagine any thinking person would think that a campus flooded with guns will be safer than a campus without one. They would then be dealing with multiple killings on a regular basis over such things as getting a bad grade. Insanity has never been a barrier to gun ownership or gun advocacy.

  7. Robbie says:

Mash, you were the first person I thought of when I saw Debbie’s posts. They are the creative writings of a depraved soul who needs counseling. No pun intended.

BTW, did you guys see the Crooks & Liars item in which Debbie made “significantly less” than $10k in income last year from her blogging?

I’ll post a short blurb on it on my journal. >:)

  8. Ingrid says:

As with 9/11, the idiotic bravura talk reigns. Someone told me that someone suggested to have kids go to bootcamp to train in self defense before going to college. What also annoyed me was this whole ‘gun culture’ issue that came up abroad. I wrote about it a few days ago; one gun killing many people at one time is different than a culture that condones killing which you will find in other cultures. (I used the example of honour killings but I’m sure there are a few other samples around the world). Now as you know, you and me being immigrants here, we have the benefit of ‘reference’. My reference being the Netherlands. People are a whole lot more aggressive there than before and people get a whole lot ‘easier’ killed by being beaten to death or stabbed to death. Take away the guns and who ever wants to kill will find a way. This guy was disturbed and he’d have done something else if he had not had access to a gun, I’m convinced of it. It is not just subhuman for those Debbie Schlussel types to be that disrespectful and ignorant, it’s plain disgusting. Who wants to even converse with these people? Luckily only their own ‘kind’.
I cannot imagine the devastation the parents must feel…
    Ingrid
ps, I had to try to post again and I had to fill out my name etc again.. is something up with the site??

  9. Robbie says:

Cookies, and not the eating kind.

  10. Group Captain Mandrake says:

Debbie and her ilk didn’t sink to those lows Mash, they were always there. One of the first, sad thoughts I had after hearing this tragic news was “now how will the scumball talking heads of the far right and gun lobby try to capitalize on this?” I didn’t have to wait long for an answer…. 😮

  11. dude says:

i am finding the reference to ds EVERYBLOG i goto upsetting. just IGNORE her and her idiotic childish rantings. the people who populate her comments section for the most part are NOT going to pay attention to reason or logic or reality.

mash, scusy for the langue, but wtf is she that anyone should care??!!

no, really, i am wondering? she is getting exactly the sort of exposure she is seeking by writing her inflamatory garbage..

do not give the gremlin water i say…

  12. Mash says:

Ingrid, sorry for the late response. I am not aware there is something wrong with the site. If it happens again, let me know.

Its always possible that some of the customizations I did are buggy. I have been known to produce buggy software before! @-)

  13. Mash says:

dude, I’ve been trying to find out why people care what she says. But apparently they do. She tends to command a sizable wingnut crowd that sometimes spills over to the mainstream media.

I do from time to time point out her absurdaties. I do it because in this day and age, if something goes unrebutted for a while, it begins to drift from rumor to fact. I wish it were not so, but it is.
