I don’t understand American politics too well. Does party not matter at all? This spokesperson essentially trashed the Republican Party to promote McCain. Is this a sign of desperation at the McCain camp or am I missing a vital point somewhere?

Kaiser- I don’t understand it too well either, but am learning more this time around because of my strong feelings (and Mash to help).

My opinion is that Obama’s message of change (from the beginning) was working and infectious. Working SO WELL that McCain decided that he should be for change as well, or lose. People were starting to believe that McCain would be four more years of the same, and this scared them. Then they took the absurd move of bringing that annoying Tina Fey look alike (she scares me)and adopted their version of “Change”, which is totally not anywhere near Obama’s version of change. But it doesn’t matter what the changes are to the general public! It is the word and thought of a change that inspires the general public. Anything different is appealing!

So it is no wonder that the McCain Campaign spokespeople will not associate themselves with the current administration. It has F-ed a lot of things up!!!! Bush will probably be noted as one of the worst presidents in history. The Republicans have been the majority of the Congress since the early 2000’s and responsible for a lot of these things happening, even if they won’t admit it.

What the general public has to remember and what Obama is emphasizing is that McCain has been a part of all of the junk going on. Adding a “charismatic (annoying) outside young turk who just happens to be a beautiful woman (stay away from that Viagra John), DOES NOT MEAN CHANGE!!!!

I tell you what-if I was a Republican listening to these people talk and not even call themselves Republicans I WOULD BE OFFENDED!!!!!! Does he think that he is an entity of himself? I GUESS SO!!!

Kaiser, McCain is the Republican Party’s nominee, not an independent. Unfortunately for him, being a Republican these days is not exactly a vote magnet. So, he is trying to hide the elephant in the room, you could say. Its pure comedy, but I have to say that they are making a gallant effort. As Matthews says, if the Republicans win, it will be the same folks as last time in all the celebration parties.

Vickie, it is very difficult for a 72-year-old man who has been part of the establishment in Washington for 26 years to now suddenly claim he is the change we have been waiting for 🙂

  4. Terri says:

I don’t understand how the americans can continue to back McCain. Agent of change, I think not. His entire election season has not been about change for but about how he is a Maveric – what Maverick, but now that the Change theme is working for Obama (who by the way, has a solid plan) he thinks he can hijack it and the Republicans are falling all over themselves with glee at this new strategy. Wake Up America.

  5. Kaiser Kabir says:

Thanks Vickie and Mash for your explanations.

I hope in the next few weeks we’ll see some Obama magic rather than just wait for the Republican campaign to self-destruct.
