Moral Authority

John Lewis is a national treasure. With John McCain’s and Sarah Palin’s rallies descending into orgies of hate, Congressman Lewis sounded this warning:

As one who was a victim of violence and hate during the height of the Civil Rights Movement, I am deeply disturbed by the negative tone of the McCain-Palin campaign.  What I am seeing reminds me too much of another destructive period in American history.  Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin are sowing the seeds of hatred and division, and there is no need for this hostility in our political discourse.

During another period, in the not too distant past, there was a governor of the state of Alabama named George Wallace who also became a presidential candidate.

George Wallace never threw a bomb.  He never fired a gun, but he created the climate and the conditions that encouraged vicious attacks against innocent Americans who were simply trying to exercise their constitutional rights.  Because of this atmosphere of hate, four little girls were killed on Sunday morning when a church was bombed in Birmingham, Alabama.

As public figures with the power to influence and persuade, Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin are playing with fire, and if they are not careful, that fire will consume us all.  They are playing a very dangerous game that disregards the value of the political process and cheapens our entire democracy.  We can do better.  The American people deserve better.

John McCain is apparently outraged by what John Lewis said and is demanding that Barack Obama apologize for Lewis’s comments. John McCain should be ashamed of himself. Just recently McCain lauded John Lewis and called him one of the "three wise men" he would consult as president. Consider this an early consultation, Senator McCain. McCain would do well to be more outraged by the hate spewing out of the McCain/Palin rallies than by what John Lewis has said. John Lewis has sounded the alarm. It is up to John McCain to now rediscover his honor and heed John Lewis’s words.

The Alaska Disasta

[Via AMERICAblog]

Sarah Palin will be dropping the puck this evening at the Philadelphia Flyers hockey game. She will be welcomed to the City of Brotherly Love with her very own hockey card.

Click the images above for a larger version or click here for the PDF of the hockey card.

Doggoneit, this promises to be fun. Will she get booed? You betcha!

Update:

Well, Governor "Hockey Mom" tried to mix politics with sports and the Philadelphia fans delivered with resounding boos:

When Sarah Palin dropped the ceremonial first puck at the Flyers’ opener on Saturday night at the Wachovia Center, she was greeted by resounding (almost deafening) boos. Ed Snider, owner of the Flyers, had her introduced to the crowd more as a hockey mom than as the Republican candidate for vice president. She was flanked by Scott Gomez, the Rangers center, and Mike Richards, the Flyers center.

While Philadelphia fans are known for not being shy about voicing disapproval, the question has been raised — including by me in an earlier version of this post — whether the appearance was appropriate at a sports event like this.

Troopergate Report: Sarah Palin Abused Her Power

The Troopergate investigation report finds that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. She abused her power when she pressured and then fired public safety commissioner Walter Monegan because he would not fire her former brother-in-law.

This Republican candidate for Vice President is a national disgrace. We do not need a person in national office who carries out personal vandettas using the power of the government.

Troopergate Report To Be Released Shortly

The Alaska Legislative Council just voted 12 to 0 to release the Troopergate investigation report on Governor Sarah Palin. The report is apparently 258 pages. It should make for some fun weekend reading.

Comrade Palin

The headline above is comedy gold. On the eve of the release of the Troopergate report by the Alaska legislature, Serial Liar Sarah Palin makes us laugh out loud. She can not only see Russia from her house, she has also picked up some propaganda tips from the pulitburo.
