So what is the big deal? It is so legal. Where was the “outrage” when the Clinton adm. fired ALL of the attorneys? also perfectly legal.

  2. Mash says:

Lynne, the Bush admin also did the same thing, as did Bush 42, and Reagan. It is custom and practice to put in place new US attorneys when a new administration comes to power.

Now, allow me to explain to you the big deal. It IS unprecedented to fire 8 US attorneys for no cause in the middle of a term. However, that is still LEGAL, as you point out, even if it is unseemly.

But, if you FIRE US Attorneys in order to obstruct a federal corruption probe, then you are committing a crime – that is called OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE. The Attorney General should know that well enough.

There are PLENTY of indications that some these attorneys were fired to stymie ongoing investigations – THAT IS THE BIG DEAL.

  3. Mash says:

oh, and if Al Gonzalies lied in front of Congress, under oath, that is called PERJURY. Today’s news suggests that might have occurred.
