Sunita Paul: Plagiarist

Sunita Paul is a plagiarist.

Sunita Paul is a “journalist” who has recently been publishing a series of sensational articles about Bangladesh. She has caused quite a stir because her articles make extraordinary claims, based on anonymous sources, about the political situation in Bangladesh. Extraordinary claims without much factual support however require a significant leap of faith by the reader. Her articles, whether they should be believed, depend on her credibility.

I find that when a journalist is engaged in plagiarism, that is when a journalist makes false claims of authorship, the remainder of that journalist’s work should be viewed with extreme suspicion. Plagiarism is dishonesty. And Sunita Paul is a plagiarist.

On February 6th of this year, Sunita Paul published an article in the American Chronicle with the breathless headline “Ruling party getting set to try Bangladesh Generals.” Now, if the claim in the article’s headline were true, this would be big news. So, my interest was piqued when I came across this article. However, the article was thin on backing up the main charge in the headline. As I read further through the long article, though, I came across a number of paragraphs that seemed very familiar to me. In fact, they sounded like something I had written in 2007. As I read them carefully, and checked back on my earlier published posts, I realized the paragraphs were exactly what I had written in two articles about General Moeen Ahmed and his involvement with Trust Bank.

In Sunita Paul’s article, you will find the following passage about the Trust Bank affair:

General Moeen and his brother, Iqbal U Ahmed, are both on the board of directors of Trust Bank. This appears to violate Bangladesh Bank regulations that state “not more than one member of a family will become director of a bank. For this purpose family members shall include spouse, parents, children, brothers and sisters of the director and other persons dependent on him/her.”

General Moeen points out that his brother was already the Managing Director of the Bank when General Moeen became Chairman of Trust Bank. However, in November 2006, while General Moeen was Chairman, his brother was reappointed Managing Director of Trust Bank. This appears to violate the Bangladesh Bank regulations which state that the above “restriction shall apply to appointment/reappointment of the directors”.

General Moeen and his brother, Iqbal, on Trust Bank´s board of directors, they are borrowers of large sums of money from the bank. According to a prospectus filed by Trust Bank before its IPO, General Moeen had a loan with an outstanding balance of Tk. 9,969,215 at the end of 2005. By the end of 2006, the outstanding amount had been reduced to Tk. 3,315,323. His brother, the Managing Director, had an outstanding loan balance of Tk. 1,775,242 at the end of June 2006. At the end of 2005 General Moeen´s loan amount was by far the largest loan given to any director or senior executive of Trust Bank.

The ownership of Trust Bank, before the IPO, consisted of 7,000,000 shares, with 6,999,920 shares held by Army Welfare Trust. Of the remaining shares, General Moeen owned 10 shares. His brother, Iqbal, owned no shares. Each share was valued at Tk. 100. Therefore General Moeen owned Tk. 1000 worth of shares. According to Bangladesh Bank regulations he was entitled, with the approval of the board of directors, to get a loan for an amount up to Tk. 500. In other words, at the end of 2005 General Moeen had a loan Tk. 9,968,715 in excess of the amount allowed by the law.

The reason the Bangladesh Bank regulations are in place is to guard against abuse of power by directors of private banks – that is to say, to prevent corruption.

In the article, she writes the above passage as her own. She does not cite me as the author of those words, nor does she put the passage in quotations.

Now compare the first two paragraphs that I noted above to these two paragraphs from my post entitled “A Matter Of Trust” published on October 20, 2007:

  • General Moeen and his brother, Iqbal U Ahmed, are both on the board of directors of Trust Bank. This appears to violate Bangladesh Bank regulations that state “not more than one member of a family will become director of a bank. For this purpose family members shall include spouse, parents, children, brothers and sisters of the director and other persons dependent on him/her.”
  • General Moeen points out that his brother was already the Managing Director of the Bank when General Moeen became Chairman of Trust Bank. However, in November 2006, while General Moeen was Chairman, his brother was reappointed Managing Director of Trust Bank. This appears to violate the Bangladesh Bank regulations which state that the above “restriction shall apply to appointment/reappointment of the directors”.
  • You will notice that she has plagiarized my published work word for word.

Now compare the next three paragraphs in her article that I noted above to these three paragraphs from my post entitled “Coming To America – Junta Banking Edition” published on October 18, 2007:

Not only are General Moeen and his brother, Iqbal, on Trust Bank’s board of directors, they are also borrowers of large sums of money from the bank. At the end of 2005 General Moeen’s loan amount was by far the largest loan given to any director or senior executive of Trust Bank.

Again, they are the same, save a minor change in the first sentence. Sunita Paul has plagiarized word for word from two of my published posts.

Not only has Sunita Paul plagiarized my work, she has used copyrighted material without my consent.

Now, it should come as no surprise that Sunita Paul is listed as a writer for the Weekly Blitz, the tabloid that is run by Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury. She also rather coincidentally writes in a number of other publications, including American Chronicle, that publish Mr. Choudhury. Over the last several years, Mr. Choudhury and his well-funded American neoconservative friends have been driving hard to drum up trouble in Bangladesh. Judging by her articles, Ms. Paul appears to be part of this larger effort.

Sunita Paul publishes rather prodigiously about Bangladesh in a number of publications including American Chronicle and Global Politician. Since at least a half a dozen such publications have published her plagiarized article, I intend to contact them and let them know that she has plagiarized and has also violated copyright.

I hope that the next time you the reader come across another breathless article from Sunita Paul, that you consider what credibility you want to attach to a plagiarist.

UPDATE In the wake of my op-ed on The Daily Star exposing her plagiarism, the article on American Chronicle has now been deleted. However, the Google cache of the deleted article is still available here. The article is also currently available at Global Politician and Priyo.com.

This woman grows ever more annoying daily. Sue her!

      • Mash says:

I’ll get in touch with the publishers and see if they want to continue to support a plagiarist and knowingly publish articles that violate someone else’s copyright. We’ll take it from there.

    2. Tanoy Dutta says:

Well Kaiser, It is not possible to sue a person who has pseudo name.

But Obviously we can expose her in several way.

    3. :-) says:

@ Kaiser, Tanoy: Right on Tanoy! Sunita Paul does not exist, apparently, that’s our old chum Salah Chowdhury’s pseudo name. So if you want to expose, not HER but HIM.

    4. Robin says:

      Dear Mash!

Did you see the picture of Sunita Paul & her latest bio! But born deaf & dumb! Without being disparaging to the handicapped but this is quite hilarious!!!

      http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/view/96720

      • Mash says:

I noticed that now they have made this bio for her. I suspect this is a pseudonym as well. I guess they are now flooding the zone with these stories – going for quantity I guess.

    5. From “her” bio from the link provided by Robin:

“Sunita Paul is considered as an expert of South Asian affairs, counter-terrorism and international relations.”

      Proposed Addenda:

“… and bloglifting from various popular blogs, espeically from posts on Bangladesh. It saves her some time.”

      Bloglifting: cnfr. Shoplifting.

    6. Rudra says:

If you just go through the article published in Holiday at http://www.weeklyholiday.net/front.html#03, it would be clear to you that so called Sunita Paul is a tool of wright wing propaganda machine. The claim made my her that in Pilkhana ‘Joy Bangla’ slogan was made by some rebels. I saw this claim in New York based e-paper ‘Ekhoni Somoi’ earlier. Even Jamati or BNP extreme elements does not claim it. Sunita Paul is the second source of this ‘finding(?). All her (?) observations are taken (stolen) from other newspaper and web based newspaper.

I totally agree that she is either fake or spoon fed about her sources in Bangladesh. Lets expose her.

    7. Robbie says:

I’ve had a few things lifted on some of my old blog posts. Annoying when it happens, but I never did anything about it because it was always someone with a blog with a bigger audience.

Mash, you’ve hit the big time if a “real” journalist lifted your stuff.

      • Mash says:

Robbie, I dont know if you remember the post I did a while ago about the neocons and their interest in Bangladesh. This “Sunita Paul” (most likely a psuedonym anyway) is connected to the same bunch.

    8. Robin says:

I have been a subscriber to the New Yorker for the last 15 years. Have never come across any article by Sunita Paul. A deaf & dumb senior journalist would have been quite a sensation. Besides i read almost all the lead articles each week. These guys are just a bunch of amateurs. I guess it works in the BD Newsgroups which are primarily populated by half educated and ill informed half wits

      • Mash says:

What is sad is that the US Congress passed a resolution specifically supporting Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury. It is a sad statement on their priorities and their motivations. I guess what matters is the neocon agenda. It doesnt matter if the content or the authorship is bogus.

    9. Hajee Rafique says:

Thanks for this wonderful blog. I was reading a nice article in the Amader Shomoy, written by former Ambassador Waliur Rahman on Sunita Paul, Susan Ramgopalan and Blitz. It is horrendous to think that whenever AL comes into the power in democratic way, a group of eveil masterminds want to shake the foundation of parliamentary democracy. This practice has a long history.

Personally I don’t believe in Sunita’s existence. It is someone around us who is restlessly writing on Bangladesh. How an Indian journalist have much time to discover facts on Trust Bank, Dr. Younus, Khelafat Andolan, Kazi Azizul Huq, Salah Chowdhury, BDR Tragedy, Army Inside Out? This is the mistery. This is my appeal to Bangladesh Democratic Government to find out the truth of this type of media atrocity. I feel ashamed when I see that a senior writer like Sadeq Khan takes reference for his columns from Sunita Paul. This is our media, friends!

Have you noticed one thing, ie, in The American Chronicle, the foto of Sunita has been changed. Previously it was a beautiful lady, and now? Plz watch by yourself. Even, few days back, Amader Shomoy published a foto of Sunita Paul from the American Chronicle in which we found a gorgeous look of a beautiful lady. Now its wisely different.

Now I remember a word from my late teacher in the DU, Professor Humayun Azad, who first introduced a Bengali term for Plagierism. The Sunita Pauls story in Bangladesh context is nothing but a planned propagatorings to defame the country’s image. What Ambassador Rahman said in his article, we all are agreed. Now it is the duty of the Bangladesh Government to unveil the facts. We love our country. We must not allow this sort of distort journalism for our motherland.

    10. SMS Rahman says:

The main problem is with our govt officials and the ruling party ( who ever ) I dont involve myself with the politics and the politicians of my country but then again can not bear the burden of theiir misdeeds !! Nothing is unveiled in this country with the initiative of the Political Party whoever is ruling and the Beaurocrats. They only work as long as their personal interests are achieved. You may show me one example in this land where a meticulous uncontrovertial judgement has taken place with any of the misconducts !! You may start with Mujib killing to BDR mutiny and I can confidently say that, these issues will remain unsolved for many years !! The main reason for this is our political leaders, they say something and does something else !!

    11. Tasneem says:

Mash: Looks like plagiarism is not the only dirty tool at play here. “Sunita Paul” or the shady clique behind this alias and American Chronicle have come up with a bogus/cooked up author bio — http://www.americanchronicle.com/authors/view/2950 — that is a serious fraud. In a lame attempt at establishing credibility, the bio lists a large number of publications where his/her “works have appeared”:

Sunday Ledger, African Times, Global Politician, Jerusalem Post, Women’s World, Insight Magazine, Europe Post, The Asian Tribune, Countercurrents, American Thinker, Intelligence Reporteur, Daily Post, Daily Sun, Times Herald, Daily News, New York Sun, Newsday, New Yorker, Washington Times, Israel Insider, CFP, New York Post, The Leader, Evening Star, Daily Observer, The Nation, Bangkok Post, Jakarta Post, Asiaweek, Dawn, The Citizen, Herald Tribune, Dimension, Outlook, Day After Day, The Pioneer, Lokmanch, Morning Leader, Frontline, Blitz, Malaysia Sun, Assam Tribune, Chandigarh Times, Morning News, The Age, Telegraph, The Week, The Standard, Modern Ghana, Women Voice, Asian Tribune, Global Politician, American Thinker, Slate, Reporter, Response, Straight Times, Intellect, Advocate, Asia Today, The Mirror, The Mail, The People´s Review, Panorama etc.

As Robin pointed out above, a “South Asia” expert whose works have appeared in big name publications like New Yorker, NY Sun, Newsday, J Post, Washington Times or The Nation, would be like a Rock-star in South Asian journalism. Well, none of these publications have any author called “Sunita Paul” listed in their archives. This really shows how credible this “Sunita Paul” character is, and what crap websites like American Chronicle are publishing.

If you deem fit, please add this bit into the piece. I did not have time to audit each of the publications listed, but, a serious review of this “author bio” will give us interesting leads, I bet.

    12. Moinuddin Naser says:

Plagarism is bad, but better than lie. Sunita Paul has been more criticised because of her writing regarding incident in Bangladesh army. The killing of army personnel in BDR headquarters is a most sensational incident that happened in Bangladesh in recent memories. The truth behind the cause of the incident is being ignored deliberately by the ruling quarter. Another quarter abroad, which has a good connection in Bangladesh is also active to divert the attention of the people instead of unveiling the truth. Sunita Paul has truely brought the issue into light. I like her plagarism as those are effective counter against lie.

      • Mash says:

Let me understand this. You like her plagiarism? If that is the case, you are just the kind of low information audience she is targetting. I really do hope you are in the minority.

    13. Journey2Infinitive says:

      To Nasir,

Can you distinguish clearly between True and lies. My opinion you are the supporter of a Born liar who wants to give Pseudonym of Truth.

    14. m.a. khalid says:

You know,as a novice who reads everything about Bangladeshi politics (since I am trying to catch up, I left the country at the age of 7), American Chronicle seems to have a specific agenda, I can’t put my finger on it, but it sure seems sinister. There writers claims to have won awards from obscure townships in US, with heavily right wing mindset, and frankly anti Muslim mindset, if I may say. I am not a lawyer, but sue these SOB’s, if you can. Thanks for exposing these jerks, now I know what not to read.

    15. MBI Munshi says:

It is very unfortunate if Sunita Paul has been engaging in plagiarism. I have had to face the same problem in relation to my work which is often plagiarized but with no credit being given. At the same time we should also be wary of the anti-democratic agenda of the AL and their Indian backers. We are entering a dangerous period in our history due to Indian provocations like Pilkhana. It is just incredibly sad that there are very few competent people to write on the Indian interference in Bangladesh and their nefarious and ofetn terrorist activities.

      • Mash says:

Did I miss something or didnt Bangladesh just have a major democratic election a few months ago? How is that “anti-democratic”?

Instead of conspiracy theories, you would do better to provide some facts. Otherwise it is really hard to take you seriously. Thank you.

        • drmakhalid says:

couldn’t agree with you more. All these conspiracy theories without any unbiased agenda is making me sick. Why is there a compulsion of anti India or anti Pakistan point of view in Bangladesh, I left the country when I was 7, in 1971, yet everything I read on Bangladesh politics is based on this principle. Is there truly a Pro-Bangladeshi entity within the academia? or the rulers/elite of Bangladesh? I would love to know the answer from someone who is in the loop of Bangladeshi politics.

    16. emran says:

I read this sunita paul thing in http://bdosintmonitors.blogspot.com on 1st april and i was shocked to read her bio data, the more disturbing thig is everyday she had a writting on Bangladesh and a lot of them on the GREAT! Sala Chow item, i understood it is he himself doing all these evil writing on bangladesh, even Amar Desh published her article in full page, my question is where is this Sala Chow residing now and why AL gov not looking into this deep rooted conspiracy and stopping it, i can also guess Amar Desh as part of this circle, as all must who runs this newspaper, i am sure this same circle circulated a letter written as survived army officer who dont want to be named and blamed AL govt for BDR killing.
Mash, you are superb in revealing secrets, plz do it this time as well.

Breaking News: Indian bull attacks Bangladeshi Imam

An Imam at a mosque in Benapole has been seriously injured as an aggressive Indian bull crossed the Benapole-Petrapole border and attacked him Monday morning.

“Huzur was returning from a waz mahfil, that took place at a village near the no-men’s land, when the bull came running towards him from the Indian side, nearly ran over him and quickly returned to the Indian side as some of the BSF members (Indian border guards) were watching,” an eyewitness said.

Experts have expressed their outrage with this heinous Indian attack on Bangladesh’s sovereignty and security. They have also underlined this incident as a typical Indian attack on Islam.

Renowned Indian-aggression expert MBI Munshi has condemned this event as yet another Indian conspiracy, “You see, India was behind the BDR mutiny. Now that the BDR is non-functional as our border guard, Indian bulls are using this opportunity to attack Bangladeshi Imams by crossing the border so freely. The AL government — agents of India — must be held accountable for this crime against Bangladesh and Islam.”

Munshi also claimed that he has written a book about Indian mis-adventures in Bangladesh. “A whole chapter of the book is about how Indian bulls, dogs and snakes attack Bangladeshis everyday. It is an awesome book. Even the Indian high commission in Dhaka has bought 420 copies of the book, to check how much of their dirty secrets have been exposed. Go and buy it! You will know what I am trying to say.”

    20. Syed Masud Ahmed says:

It’s not a matter (at least much) whether Sunita Paul is real or not or whether s/he is an expert of plagiarism! The matter is whether the issues/concerns raised in her articles holds ground. What ar ethe answers to the questions/concerns she raised? can we just ignore these because these are raised may be a person under pseudonym etc.?

There is an indication from recent happenings in BD (e.g., ecstatic scream of the politicians at the resignation of ACC chief, threat of filing cases against the key players behind 1/11 by politicians before BDR massacre etc.) it is becoming clear day by day that a group of disgruntled dishonest and mastan politicians from both BNP and AL, more from the latter, were the mastermind behind the massacre_they planned to take revenge and teach the Army a lesson! Some other interests also coincided with their plan and got help and boosting. Among these include: i) an opportunity to take revenge by the BSF (India) for their humiliating defeat at the hand of BDR few years back and destroy BDR ii) Hasina’s plan to downsize/demoralize/weaken BD Army so as to create a subservient Army more aligned with ex-Rakhi bahini created by her father (this is organized and coordinated by her son Joy; s/he is also trying this by reshuffling the army top brass recently after BDR massacre) iii) An american interest to blame the game on religious extremists so that they (US marine etc.)can penetrate freely into BD and take control of the strategic issues of building off-shore port, transit to India, get hold of BD natural resources, and keep a strategic direct presence in BD to spy on India and China in the very important time to come in next five years etc. etc.

Thus quite a number of interests coincided to come to the zero hour (BDR massacre)…

In any way, the net result is a very dark future for the people, and the country unless…

    21. SM Haq says:

Got a bit confused… It’s not a matter of much concern/importance to judge the level of honesty and integrity the journalist holds, b4 we take his/her writings (on a serious national issue) seriously??!!

India (with an intension to take revenge on BSF issue) holds hands together with USA (who wants to spy on India using BD ground) with the help of Hasina (who wants to resurrect Rakkhi Bahini) plans the massacre to let US marines enter the country?!?

Are you aware there are conspiracy theories like- “Lizard-looking” aliens are actually running the world through a group called the “Illuminati”…? ..or.. The moon landing was actually staged in a Californian desert…

      • Syed Masud Ahmed says:

who said that one fine morning India, BD Govt. of Hasina and US govt. sat in a conference room and planned together the BDR massacre! What I wanted to say is that a number of interests coincided and took advantage of the situation to forward their own agenda! The problem is, we too frequently think in one dimension…do you have any idea the the different part of the US govt. pursue their own agenda e.g., the CIA doesn’t know what the FBI is doing or they confront the pentagon people and sometimes fight each other!

I think what news is coming out recently (even from the big mouth faruk khan) is a testimony to the highly probable facts that was suggested in my previous comment.

Have brains man…otherwise why take the trouble of carrying it on the body?

    22. Journey2Infinitive says:

      Syed Masud& Sm Haque,

why should we ignore? To support a liar and supporters like you? To support Fanatic, Anti liberation people like you?

Liar is a Liar and Thief is a thief and Razakar is a Razakar.

What ever venom you will spread It is almost impossible to stop the Trial of war Criminals? So Go and Try your level best to support liars like Sunita Paul, she will be known as big liars as you people.

    23. Zia Islam says:

What she is bringing on the table is priceless. Her articles are so factual and based on the Ground Reports, that sometimes it amazes me. Whetther she forgot to acknowledge you on her article on Trust Bank is another matter. She could have just writen a footnote to show her gratidtude, but still it would have a footnote!!!

    24. Akash says:

Syed Masud Ahmed and SM Haq, so It’s not a matter to you whether Sunita Paul is real or not or whether s/he is an expert of plagiarism!
Because you just like something that you really like to read and that write up satisfies you most…. because you actually read something that looks like your own thought and ideas. I really can’t understant how people can be so irrational and biased with pre-conceived ideas.

      • Syed Masud Ahmed says:

pre-conceived idea? me or people like you who are blind-folded by their support of a particular party (AL or BNP)? Like jumping into conclusion that it was done by JMB etc. now even the bog mouth faruk khan is swallowing his own words…

sorry to say that your sky is too small…

        • Journey2Infinitive says:

ROFL. Masud, Do you know when you open your mouth you are looking like a big fool.

Akash is rightly mentioned To Serial Liars like you ” You don’t care about existence of him/her.”

Because SP is a symbol of Crony and Fanatics like you.

Even people like you are so dishonest and coward that you

are scared of the light of truth. So Plagiarist like SP is always needed to save the interest. Funniest thing is that You people need a pseudonym like Sunita Paul. It’s so funny.

          • Mash says:

Ok, you folks all need to ease up on the extreme namecalling or I’ll start to delete these comments or close the comment thread altogether.

Please feel free to disagree with me or other commenters but please stop using words like “razakar” at the drop of a hat. If you want to make a charge, back it up with some facts.

    25. dilbor says:

I think that SP is a pseudonym and probably guilty of plagiarism, as pointed out here. However, the questions is whether the information he/she presents are correct or not. No doubt, she raises some provocative questions on BDR incident which need to be answered. Govt has done complete change of investigation team and brought in a “friendly” police investigator from retirement on contractual basis. Public perception is and it is becoming increasingly clear that ruling govt wants to blame on JMB or some other Islamic Outit or “anti-liberation forces” for BDR incident. Posing this type of provocative questions by SP raises some “unease” among the ruling govt and their supporters. We need to focus on the information and facts and avoid demonizing the author. Note that many mainstream Indian media outlets came up with similar information even BD media didn’t know ( i.e. report of DG’s death on 25th feb morning along with 13 others officers, CNN-IBN reportedly showed picture of DG’s body on 25th Feb, involvement of SQ chowdhury,BNP-Jamaat,Islamists etc..) which were heavily referenced by BD newspapers and govt. ministers started talking in same tune within few days and its still ongoing.

    26. ABMK says:

WHETHER SUNITA PAUL IS REAL OR FAKE,THAT IS NOT THE POINT,BUT SHE RAISED SOME VALID QUESTION. GOVT. NEED TO ANSWER THOSE QUESTION . IF PART OF THIS GOVT. WAS NOT INVOLVED WITH BDR MUTINY, THEY WOULD HAVE REVEALED INVESTIGATION REPORT LONG TIME BACK.WHY NANOK IS HIDING IN SINGAPORE. WHO IS TORAB ALI?

      • Mash says:

Reporting is about having some factual basis for what you write. Wild accusations and conspiracy theories may impress you, but reality requires some grounding in facts.

Otherwise, we are in the realm of comedy. And putting your comment in CAPITAL LETTERS doesnt make it any more credible.

        You said:

“IF PART OF THIS GOVT. WAS NOT INVOLVED WITH BDR MUTINY, THEY WOULD HAVE REVEALED INVESTIGATION REPORT LONG TIME BACK”

Really? So, if the government had turned around a report of the massacre in a couple of days, you would have said the government wasn’t involved? Somehow I doubt that. I think then we may have heard from you something like: “SEE, THE GOVERNMENT IS INVOLVED. HOW ELSE COULD THEY COMPLETE AN INVESTIGATION OF SUCH A MASSIVE CRIME SO QUICKLY. CLEARLY ITS A SHAM INVESTIGATION.”

    27. stranger says:

sunita paul is Colonel (retd) Ishaq Mian who is still serving the DGFI sitting at banani office. the office is being operated in disguise and serves the purposes of DGFI. Ishaq served in kolkata and thats how he quickly picked a hindu name. all culprits leaves behing some proof of his sin. ishaq is no exception. how sunita paul knows so many secret information of moin u ahmed, bdr, politicians, and so on. he is a bangladeshi and he is ishaq, a nasty and stinking personality.

    28. MBI Munshi says:

I just don’t get it. I spend two years protesting about plagiarism and no one pays any attention and then this Sunita Paul comes along implicating India and the AL in the Pilkhana Massacre and we have this holier than thou attitude. Where was everyone when I was writing about plagiarism only a few weeks ago. Actually many people opposed to my perspective and opinion were defending the right to plagiarize. Is this defense of intellectual rights selective or what? Only those who do not protest Indian interference in Bangladesh are entitled to protection while everyone else can go to hell. That really sucks and is utterly dishonest. As dishonest as what Sunita Paul is doing!

      • Mash says:

MBI Munshi, when you plagiarize my writing I’ll be happy to write a post about you. I am not “everyone”. I am me. If you plagiarize my work, expect to hear from me. Sunita Paul plagiarized my writing and I have no qualms calling her out on it. I am not sure why you find that “dishonest”. She then claimed she didnt plagiarize and I was more than happy to show the numerous times she has plagiarized. I am not a big fan of liars and plagiarists. Plagiarism is theft – pure and simple.

You should support me and other writers in this effort to expose a plagiarist. Instead, while you keep saying you protest plagiarism, you then turn around and whine about plagiarism being exposed.

In fact, I have seen that you go from blog to blog singing the same tune. I find your reasoning to be quite bizarre.

    29. MBI Munshi says:

You are missing my point entirely. I have like you complained about plagiarism of my writings over two years but no one paid any attention. Sunita Paul comes along plagiarizes your work and we have a witch hunt against plagiarists on our hands. Why this double standards. My conclusion is that the content of her opinions on India have made her an easy target. In my case since I am not part of a pro-Indian/AL intellectual clique my writings do not deserve protection. That I find hypocritical and shameful.

      • Mash says:

What part of this do you have a hard time understanding?

        Let me WRITE it SLOWLY:

Sunita Paul plagiarized MY work. Therefore she attracted MY attention. Now, I am really sorry no one paid any attention when you complained about people who plagiarized YOUR work. I for one have never heard of YOU before.

        Here’s a news flash:

MY world DOES NOT revolve AROUND YOU – especially since I have NO IDEA who YOU are.

Now, it is the height of ARROGANCE and ABSURDITY for YOU to think that just because I have NEVER HEARD of YOU and because I have never written about people allegedly plagiarizing YOUR WORK, that somehow leads to the conclusion that I am part of some “pro-Indian/AL intellectual clique”. For me to be hypocritical, I would have had to at least know WHO THE HELL YOU ARE.

    30. MBI Munshi says:

I see that YOU ARE FULL OF YOUR OWN SELF-IMPORTANCE. Sunita Paul plagiarizes your work and you think you are SOME INTELLECTUAL ICON. I recall that we had a dispute on Shada Kalo blog several months ago concerning Tasneem Khalil so you know who I am and therefore you are a LIAR.

      • Mash says:

A couple of OBVIOUS FACTS for you, MBI Munshi. When someone plagiarizes MY WORK, it is IMPORTANT TO ME. If that SIMPLE CONCEPT does not get through to you, then I really can’t help you. Clearly the issue is also important to you too, judging by how many comments you have now posted on this topic.

What kind of oddity are you that you are chastising me for writing about someone who plagiarized my work? This, if you haven’t figured out yet, is MY BLOG. That is, I write here on issues that I consider to be meaningful. I dont necessarily write on issues that are IMPORTANT TO YOU. Someone plagiarizing my work while spreading propaganda is an issue that IS DAMN WELL IMPORTANT TO ME. Only someone extremely obtuse would not understand THAT BASIC POINT.

And, no, I dont remember you. For you to expect me to remember your name because I apparently had a back and forth with you in the comments section of another blog IS A LITTLE MUCH, dont you think? And if the exchange in the comments section was concerning Tasneem’s torture, that would be sometime in May 2007.

So, sorry, I don’t know who the hell you are just because I may have responded to some comment you wrote in 2007.

I just googled your name and see a couple of hits about a book I assume you wrote. I searched for the book on Amazon.com but could not find it. Do let me know where I can find the book, and I’d be happy to read it if it interests me.

      Mash u r a great lier & a big ass hole.

      • Journey2Infinitive says:

I am enjoying all those Slang by these people. At least Mahmood came with his name. God Knows It is his real name or that. This is highly respected Blog . Although Mash Bhai is a author, But we people are simply fan of this Blog and author.

So Mahmood by using such Language you have already proved your class . It is good that People like Mahmood are the readers of Sunita Paul.

    32. MBI Munshi says:

Don’t worry I am not targeting you in particular just those who have made this issue into a national cause although plagiarism has been around in Bangladesh since God knows when. I do not dispute that plagiarism is despicable but the effort to fight it should be continuous and not merely selective as it is now. Normally such moral outrage depends on the political opinion of the victim which determines whether he/she deserves protection.

I am sorely disappointed by the quality of your memory but that is just a personal observation.

Since you asked me my book The India Doctrine (1947-2007) can be found at The Bookworm near Jahangir Gate.

      • Mash says:

MC, you have something to say to another commenter, then do so. Whining to me about another comment doesnt move the conversation forward.

I let everyone, whether they agree with me or not, express their views. I expect and hope people will keep it civil however and refrain from personal attacks. This thread is reaching new lows however.

I understand Mash’s problem is the ‘truth’. He just can’t tolerate the truth. A nonesense person. Everyone should disregard a person who does not care about the truth. I said plagiarism is bad but better than lie. I don’t understand, whether Mr Mash has the capacity to understand the ‘truth’. Please read even if that is written by a plagiarist.
